NormaTec Pulse 2.0 Review

If you're here, you have likely seen someone wearing these curious looking, full leg, inflatable boots, and wondered what they were.

In the following review I will provide you with an in-depth look at how the NormaTec Pulse 2.0 Recovery Boots work. I hope this info will help you figure out if it is the best product for your fitness journey.

What are the differences between the NormaTec Pulse 2.0 vs. Pulse?

Whereas previous NormaTec models were not integrated with bluetooth, the PULSE 2.0 features a Bluetooth enabled app, which allows you to not only control and adjust your session using your smart phone, but it also allows you to track and store your session information.

You will really enjoy being able to use your phone as a remote control to adjust the settings. In the past you would have to reach and perhaps even strain yourself to adjust your session, if your control unit was far from where you were sitting. When you are wearing inflatable boots, the last thing you want to do is to have to get up to change a setting. Now you don't have to!

In addition, the fact that the app stores the sessions length and frequency by data and time, means you now have access to your recovery data and analytics, helping you spot trends in your performance and recovery, to help you optimize performance.

How Does the NormaTec Pulse 2.0 work?

It is a fairly simple process. After you hook up the main box to your leg boots, you then slide the boots up onto your legs and zip them up. The main box has a touchscreen, which you can use to control the intensity and time of the session.

Essentially, the main box of the NormaTec Pulse 2.0 system sends compressed air to the leg sleeves, which in turn provide sequential pressure in 5 zones along your legs.

The pressure provides a massage and improves circulation in your legs, helping clear lactic acid and in general, making you feel fresher and more spry.

The nice thing about the main unit is it does not need to be plugged in, as it actually has an internal battery that stores charge. That means as long as you charge the NormaTec main box in periodically, you will be able to take it on the go or use it outside, without the need of an outlet.

How Powerful is the NormaTec Pulse 2.0 Recovery System?

According to NormaTec, it can reach up to 110mmHg. While I did not attempt to measure the power generated, in laymen's terms, it provides an impressive amount of squeeze, so much so that I did not need to go past Level 4, even though you can go up to 7 levels of intensity.

In my personal experience, Level 4 was plenty enough, and for those keeping score at home, I am 6 feet 180 lbs.

Level 4 provides a nice amount of pressure, of which I would equate to receiving a sports massage. Immediately after a 30 minute session, my legs felt much fresher while standing up and walking around.

In addition, I noticed when that a session would carry over into the next day. For example, if I used it the night before a game day, my on-court performance and activity levels increased thanks to my legs being fresher.

How Long Does a NormaTec Pulse 2.0 Session last?

You can adjust the session length for a NormaTec Pulse 2.0 Recovery system from 10 minutes, all the way up to 2 hours and 55 minutes. In fact, the longest session option is more than 5X of its nearest competitors, making this a standout feature of the NormaTec in the air compression category.

Most of all, the nice thing about a longer session option is that when using this, you will probably have your feet elevated and find yourself wanting to doze off while it does the work.

This means if you need to receive a longer treatment session, you can actually just relax and let it do its work, since you won't need to continually restart the device to continue the session.

To be clear, this runs in stark contrast to competitors of NormaTec, whose devices top out at 10-15 minute maximum sessions.

How heavy or bulky is the NormaTec Pulse 2.0 system?

For something so powerful, the NormaTec Pulse 2.0 is amazingly compact. In fact, the PULSE 2.0 Series systems are 27% smaller than the previous model. It is also very lightweight, weighing only 3.6 pounds. You can easily take it anywhere, as it is not a huge recovery device.

Plus, you don't even a need to take the charger if it is already charged, because as I mentioned before, it has a built in battery that stores charge.
