MojiHeat Roller Review
It all started with a Kickstarter campaign in December of 2016, in which Moji declared that after their heated roller launched, "You'll never use a foam roller again." Moji took a traditional foam roller design and modified it so that it could provide up to 30-minutes of therapeutic heat, besides the usual benefits of foam rolling.
In this review I aim to give you an in depth look at the Moji Heated Roller. I hope this info will help you figure out how it works and to decide if it is the right product for your fitness journey.

How Does the MojiHeat Roller Provide Heat?
First of all, most people want to know, how does a foam roller provide heat? The answer: it is as easy as putting the Moji Heated roller into the microwave for a few minutes. After that, you will be able to enjoy the heat for up to 30 minutes in normal room temperature conditions. In actuality, it lasted closer to 40 minutes for some of my testing, as it seems like the material they use really retains heat well. Moreover, I even noticed when it was outside in the sun that it would have a degree of a heated effect, just from being in sunlight. Quite frankly, the material clearly stores and absorbs heat well.
Lastly, if you are wondering if it might not fit into your microwave, worry not: you can twist the roller apart, and it should fit into even the smallest microwaves after being broken down. It is only 13" long and 4" in diameter, which makes it one of the smaller foam rollers on the market.
How Hot does the MojiHeat Roller get?
According to Moji, it can reach up to 140 degrees. While I did not measure the temperature, in laymen's terms, it gets noticeably hot, but not enough to burn you (as long as you follow the instructions and do not microwave it over 3 minutes and 20 seconds, as it warns against doing on the label).
Most importantly the Moji Heated roller provides a nice level of heat, not overbearing but noticeable enough to reach your skin and muscles, even through a layer of clothing.
How Firm is the MojiHeat Roller?
If you get tight hamstrings, you need a firm roller. Softer rollers just won't provide the same relief a firmer one will. If that is you, you will love the Moji Heated roller - it is extremely firm. I have yet to test a foam roller firmer than the MojiHeat roller actually. Even without the heat, I still found myself wanting to roll on it at times to address my tight hamstrings.
However, I would like to point out here that everyone will feel or perceive the firmness differently depending on their body type. So rather than just give you my point of view, here are three other Recreation of LA staff member's opinions as well.
This will give you a better sense of the firmness you can expect from this foam roller.
In conclusion, the graph above shows that everyone who tested the MojiHeat roller were impressed with its firmness, giving it an average rating of 9.5.
I personally rated the Moji Heated roller a 9 for firmness. It is really the only foam roller that can treat my hamstrings well simply by rolling on it. Above all, this makes the Moji Heat Roller perfect for anyone looking for a firmer foam roller. Even without the heat it makes it a useful tool due to its supreme firmness.
How heavy or bulky is the Moji Heat Roller?
While you now know that the MojiHeat Roller is firm and can provide an ample amount of heat, I also wanted to tip you off regarding the size and weight of the roller. After all, if a foam is too bulky, you'll end up leaving it at home most of the time, instead of using it.
Firstly, one of the biggest pluses of the Moji Heated roller is its small size. In reality, a lot of the size on bigger foam rollers on the market is just for show. For instance, you don't really need that large of a surface area to roll on, and some studies actually show that rolling on a smaller device is more beneficial because it forces you to work slower and possibly in a more targeted fashion.
Most importantly, you will definitely get a lot of use out of the Moji Heated Roller because its small size means you can take it with you anywhere. It's only 3 lbs. However, the one downside is most gyms don't have microwaves next to the stretching mats! You'll be using it cold at the gym, unless you live close and microwave it before arriving.

Other Gripes or Comments
In all honesty, this roller can be difficult to break apart if you don't have strong hands. So if you need to break it down to put it in your microwave, you better have strong hands, wrists and forearms, or know someone who does!
Above all, the number one setback to this roller is that most gyms don't have microwaves readily available. With that in mind, you are basically using this at home / in areas with microwaves, or heating it and taking it with you to the gym.
However, I applaud Moji for actually producing a heated foam roller, I never heard of one before they did, and I haven't seen any since. Pretty unique and original idea on their part.

Is a MojiHeat Roller Worth it?
After reviewing the Moji Heated Roller, I would say that purchasing a MojiHeat Roller is worth it if you are looking for a foam roller that can provided heated therapy, as it is the only one of its kind that I know of, and it is very firm and easy to transport.
- Heat Therapy Makes it Special: The Moji Heated Roller works great on many different areas of the body, but what makes it unique is the heated capability. It feels really nice and it makes a great warm up tool.
- Lightweight and Portable: If you don't care about always having access to the heat and just need a good foam roller that you can take with you, the MojiHeat Roller is good option because it is so small and compact. You can either carry it with the handle or toss in your gym bag.
- Good Firmness: This is the firmest roller I tested. The firmness makes you want to use it even at times when you do not have access to a microwave.
