TimTam vs. Hypervolt

TimTam vs. Hypervolt Review

You landed here because you’re trying to decide between two of the most popular handheld massagers, the TimTam and the Hypervolt. I have done extensive testing on both of these massage guns, using them on myself and others for several months.

Both massagers are good in their own right and worthwhile purchases. However, they each have their own pros and cons, so I hope my review will provide you with enough detail to help you decide which one will be the best design for you.

Read on for my TimTam vs. Hypervolt review. If you don’t have time to read it all, click here to skip to the bottom to see who won.

TimTam Massager Review

Power Rating

TimTam is shorthand for TimTam Power Massager, and its full name is apt, as the device is full of power, if not without regard to noise or speed options.

The nice thing about having so much raw power to work with is that you don't need to press into your muscles to get a deep massage. It is plenty strong enough on its own.

However, the downside is it is louder and does not offer different speed levels in the case you want a softer massage.TimTam Massager

Finally, the TimTam comes in at a 8 out of 10 on the power rating scale (with 10 being the firmness and 1 being the softest).

More power allows you to quickly move from muscle group to muscle group during treatment. Again you don't need to really add any additional pressure at all since it offers plenty of power on its own.

Accessory Options

Firstly, the TimTam comes with a nice compact carrying case for easy transport and travel.

Secondly, the TimTam can be used with six different attachment heads, which includes a hot attachment, cold attachment and a blade shaped design that they are calling the Recovery Blade.

Lastly, the downside is you will need to purchase the extra attachments separately. From an expandability standpoint, it is the only handheld massager that I've heard of that offers a heated or cold tip, or a blade, so it's pretty special in that regard.

Battery Life

In this paragraph I am going to discuss battery life. First of all, the TimTam lasts 30 minutes on one charge. Since it is high powered, the shorter battery life isn't too big of a deal since you don't need to use it very long to feel the results.

Moreover, extra batteries are sold separately, so you can always purchase more if you need to use this for numerous clients.

Hypervolt Massager Review

Power Rating

Firstly, the Hypervolt has a lot of power for such a quiet device, and you get to decide just how much power you want out of it using the three speed options.

However, the word "Hyper" is a bit apt, as the massage gun has bit of a tendency to jump around on level 3 if you don't apply enough manual pressure.

Finally, although the noise is quieter and it is nice to have 3 speed options for when you don't want full power, the downside is the top power doesn't seem to be very usable.

Hyperice TheraGun

In conclusion of our study, the Hypervolt scored 8 out of 10 on the power rating scale (with 10 being the firmness and 1 being the softest).

Above all, its raw power capability is still impressive, but the full speed option required a lot of manual pressure to keep it targeted without bouncing around. In addition, I noticed I had to apply considerably more pressure than when using some of its competitor's guns.

Lastly, the fact that you have the control to vary the power setting should also be taken into consideration when evaluating its power rating, so I will give it a slight boost for including that feature.

Accessory Options

Firstly, let's talk about the number of attachments that come with the Hypervolt. Unlike the TimTam, the Hypervolt includes four attachment heads, including a flat tip, round tip, bullet tip and a fork tip. Most importantly, they are all complimentary of one another and it is really easy to swap in and out between them during a massage session.

However, the Hypervolt does not come with a carrying case, which is a mild disappointment at its pricepoint.

Battery Life

First off, the Hypervolt lasts an incredible 2.5-3 hours on one charge. You can seriously use this for weeks without having to recharge it.

While I could not find extra batteries for sale at the time of this review, the superb battery life makes a backup battery less important.

What’s the right massager for you? TimTam or Hypervolt?

So the big question, is TimTam or Hypervolt the right massage gun for you?

After thorough tests on both of these massagers, the winner for me is the Hypervolt. Overall, I feel that the Hypervolt massager is simply the better massager. I would recommend the Hypervolt massage gun to anyone who falls into the following categories:

  • Option to lower intensity – if you are a smaller built person or do not like strong massages, the Hypervolt might be the better option because it allows you to dial back the power. At a 8 out of 10 on the power rating scale, it is still powerful when needed, but the variable power setting allows you to switch it up.
  • Quiet massager – if you are going to use your massage gun in situations where noise level is important, the Hypervolt is the much quieter massager of the two devices.
  • More polished product – from the moment you see the packaging, to the actual look, feel and performance of the product itself, the Hypervolt is simply a more polished product. The Hypervolt looks and feels like a professional product designed by a major brand, versus a device you might find from a hardware or tool store rebranded as a fitness product.

In general, I would recommend the Hyperice Hypervolt to most people. With that being said, there are some situations in which the TimTam might be a better option for you:

  • Expandability options – The TimTam can be swapped out with hot, cold and the recovery blade, besides standard attachment heads, so you can really attack your soreness in various ways. However, keep in mind that they do cost $20 extra, each, while Hyperice includes all of its attachment heads in the price.
  • Ergonomic grip – the pistol grip design allows you to hold the TimTam longer without fatigue, and the handle is thinner than the Hypervolt so your hand is more comfy. The shaft also adjusts to a horizontal level so you can apply the massage easier on a partner at different angles.
  • Carrying case while it is not necessary for all, the fact that TimTam is including a carrying case with the massager is a good bonus for those who need to take it places.

  1. I have used a HyperICE at the 24hr fitness and it does have a Carrying case and i have not had a problem with the jumping around at full power as you described. The TimTam has too much power for a simple massage.
