NextRoller vs. Hyperice Vyper 3.0 Review
You're reading this because you're try to figure out which roller is better, the NextRoller or the Hyperice Vyper 3.0. You're in the right place: I've tested both extensively for months so that I can give you a great breakdown of each.
To be clear, both of these foam rollers are pretty good devices. As with anything, they each have their own pluses and minuses, so I will go over these in my review to hep you choose the best one for you.

Hyperice Vyper 3.0 Review
Power Rating
Similar to the NextRoller, the Hyperice Vyper 3.0 has 3 speed settings. However, Level 1 of Vyper 3.0 is probably equal to Level 2 of the NextRoller. Finally, level 3 (92 Hz) of the Hyperice Vyper 3.0 is stronger than level 3 of the NextRoller (only 67 Hz). Therefore, Hyperice clearly has more powerful vibration force, and maybe the most of any roller on the market.
With that said, I hardly used Level 3, I found Level 1 and 2 much more practical and enjoyable. Most athletes we used it on also stayed at the lower levels.
Furthermore, certain studies attest to the fact that vibration is only beneficial up to a certain frequency/power anyway, meaning you only need so much power to feel or receive the benefit of vibration. So some of the hype in Hyperice regarding their claim that they made "the most powerful vibrating foam roller" on the market, is well, simply marketing.
I do think NFL and NBA type athletes (large human beings) might appreciate the Level 3 power though. Us mere mortals who tested the Vyper 3.0, did not need 92 Hz, and I think the average person would agree.
Firmness
The Vyper 3.0 is dense and firm by any foam roller standards, but I think it is the most firm vibrating foam roller I've ever used.
If you get tight hamstrings, the firmness of a Hyperice Vyper is key, especially if you are a large athlete. At 6 feet and 180 lbs, most foam rollers have too much give for me and do not get the job done. The Hyperice Vyper 3.0 density is much better than most rollers, in regards to its firmness.
Portability
The Hyperice Vyper 3.0 is big by both dimensions and weight standards. It is 13 inches long and 5.3 inches in diameter, and it weighs 2.7 lbs.
Consequentially, I didn't really bring it to the gym much, I mostly used it at home. You would have to be a duffel bag gym-goer to be able to bring this one with you places, it is too big for a standard sized backpack.

Power Rating
First off, like the Hyperice Vyper 3.0, the NextRoller has 3 speed power settings, and it ranges from 20 Hz at level 1, all the way to 67 Hz at its level 3 settings. While the Hyperice Vyper has a higher Hz rating (92 Hz) at top speed, the overall intensity of using the NextRoller at 67 Hz is right in line with the Hyperice, due to the protruding design of the NextRoller. More on that below when we reach the firmness category.
Regarding which levels to use, level 1 and level 2 is great for your calves and back, where level 3 was ideal for massaging my hamstring, quads and glutes. Although the level 3 isn't as powerful as other rollers, it is plenty of vibration when combined with the rough surface it is paired with.
Firmness
Firstly, the NextRoller is not only firm but the rough, jagged exterior is great for providing a deep tissue, triggerpoint style massage on your larger muscle groups. For instance, the NextRoller will knock out knots in your traps with ease, and it goes after your tight hamstrings and quads like no other roller I've tested.
However, the one downside in regards to the surface materials is that there were times when putting my full weight on it that I heard it struggling under me (I am 6 feet, 180lbs for reference). For example, that makes me think the quality of their surface materials aren't as robust as those used on the Hyperice Vyper 3.0.
In addition, the quality is noticeable from the eyeball test. I wouldn't consider it to be made with premium materials, both in use and aesthetically. But for the price it is absolutely right.
Portability
Similar to the Hyperice Vyper 3.0, at 13 inches long and 6 inches in diameter, and weighing 4lbs, this isn't something you can just toss into a backpack. You'll need one of those large duffel bag style gym bags if you want to bring this with you places.
From my experience, I didn't take it with me too often. I just didn't find it very easy to bring the NextRoller with me to the gym because it is kind of heavy and big for a standard backpack, and that's my go-to gym bag.

What’s the right foam roller for you? NextRoller or Hyperice Vyper 3.0?
So the big question, is Hyperice Vyper 3.0 or NextRoller the right foam roller for you?
After extensive testing on both of these foam roller, the winner for me is the Hyperice Vyper 3.0. Overall, I feel that the Hyperice Vyper 3.0 is simply a more polished version of the NextRoller. I would recommend the Hyperice Vyper 3.0 to anyone who falls into the following categories:
- Quality Matters – the Vyper 3.0 is like a luxury sports car, it looks, feels and "drives" like a premium product. If you are willing to spend a little more for the better quality product, this is a case of that. It will likely last longer and it just looks and feels more luxurious.
- You want the option to have larger vibration intensity – if you are a larger built person or like lots of vibration, the Vyper 3.0 might be the better option because it provides more raw power at 92 Hz
- Firmness wins out for you – if you don't mind spending the extra money (4X the NextRoller), you will get a firmer roller for your money.

In general, I would recommend the Hyperice Vyper 3.0 to most people. With that being said, there are some situations in which the NextRoller might be a better option for you:
- Protruding, Textured Surface: To combine vibration with a more aggressive surface is a first for a vibrating foam roller design. If you need an intense foam roller to get the job done, this is the one for you.
- Money is Tight: for a fraction of the price, you'll get pretty similar functionality out of the NextRoller, as you would the Hyperice Vyper 3.0.
